About the artist
Stahlschmidt studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin and the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Art in Weimar under Albert Brendel and Max Thedy. He established an artist’s studio in Berlin-Charlottenburg before becoming a freelance artist in Weimar and later, becoming a member of the Weimar Etching Society. His works were exhibited at the Glaspalast in Munich.
Stahlschmidt’s death remains a mystery. It is said that he died in Weimar in 1918 although reports indicate that he was still running his Berlin studio in 1927. There are also some paintings dated after 1918.
