About the Artist
Eugen Napoleon Neureuther was born on 13 January 1806 the son of the painter Ludwig Neureuther (1775-1830). He studied at the Munich Academy from 1823 and was Wilhelm von Kobell’s student. In 1830 he went to Paris and stayed for several years before moving on to Rome in 1838. In 1848 he was the Artistic Head of the royal porcelain factory in Nymphenburg, remaining until the sale of the company in 1956. He continued with his work and was a professor at the Royal School of Arts and Crafts from 1867 and 1868 He established his reputation with drawings for Goethe’s ballads and romances. Neureuther died on the 23 March 1882 in Munich
