The Artist
Else Reckort was born in 1911 in Soest, Germany and died in 1995 in Freiburg, Germany. From 1958 – 1963 she completed her training at the Free Art School in Freiburg under Hermann Anselment and Erich Hauser. In the years 1963 – 1965 she gradually took over the direction of this same Free Art School. From 1971 – 1995 Else Reckort was a member of the Professional Association of Fine Arts and GEDOC. She also had a teaching assignment in adult education at the VHS Freiburg. During an extended stay in Paris and Provence in France, she maintained lively contact with the artist scene there and made the acquaintance of Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger and George Braque. From 1958 onwards, Else Reckort turned more and more to abstract expressionism and the magical light of Provence now became the target of her painting. In the years between 1960 and 1982 she created her painting cycle Lumière Mystique. In addition to numerous oil paintings, she worked in the style of Henri Matisse and in the grinding techniques of gouache decoupée and pochoir. Throughout her life Else Reckort exhibited her art at various locations in Germany.
