The artist
Guido knows how to captivate the viewer’s eye with a magical combination of photography and painting: Where does photography begin, where does painting begin?
The viewer is stimulated to think about this, while at the same time the magic of South Africa affects him – partly highlighted by South African pictograms.
Excerpt from a freely translated opening speech for an exhibition in New York, 1998, by Antonia Valdez, art critic and reviewer, Madrid:
“…it is an immediately recognizable art, but it also exhibits a magnificent originality…. The light is refracted and a velvety impression is created, transforming the image, sweeping the frame into the effect of a painting…Guido can render earthy terracotta tones and sandy colors as softly as velvety skin…or tenderly erotic female bodies.”
