At 17, Leonhard Lauffs started his art training at the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts from 1900 to 1901 continuing at the Düsseldorf Art Academy until 1911. His studies included trips to Italy and Belgium before he settled in Düsseldorf where he became a member of the artist’s group Malökasten who were known by their abbreviation KMV.
Lauffs mainly Worked as a sculptor creating portrait busts, figurines, fountains, and gravestones. His work can still be viewed in and around Düsseldorf. The Dreimädelbrunnen (Three Girls’ Fountain) 1914/1915, can be found in Friedrich-Lau-Straße 5, 40474 Düsseldorf.
His art was exhibited at the Great Art Exhibition, Düsseldorf in 1911, the Great Berlin Art Exhibition in 1913, and the Great German Art Exhibition in 1941 and 1942.
